With the 24th of July celebration right around the corner, I wanted the kids to know why the holiday is important. The pioneers and early church members sacrificed so much and we definitely reap the benefits from it! We have many ancestors who came across the plains and I love reading about their experiences. Now whether or not my goal was accomplished who knows but we had a great time and saw some amazing things!
Here Ryan, Gage, & Nate were checking out what a bed would be like on the ships the early pioneers came on across the ocean from the European countries! Many of our ancestors came from England and Scotland. Scott's Great Grandmother even came from Denmark all alone at the tender age of 13! She was an amazing woman.

This was a real handcart that came across the plains. It was a lot smaller than I could have ever imagined. We learned that the adults were allotted 17 lbs. of personal items and the children were allowed 10 lbs. Jaydee was horrified that if it were us her stuffed animals would have to be left behind.... 
I can't even begin to think about loading up everything we own and travel in a wagon. Where would you even begin? Definitely something to get you thinking about what is really important.
The museum has a fun "scavenger" hunt for the kids to fill out as the go through the museum. The kids loved looking and finding the items and then answering the question that went with each item!
